Oliver 6 months

I can't believe I'm typing this!
I can't believe that Oliver is 6 months old.

How is this sweet little boy 6 months old?  And when did 6 months become "big"?  I know he's still a baby and compared to many of you that have adult child, I still have a little guy...but he's just. so. big!

So what is our big guy up to?  I don't even know where to begin.

Oliver had his 6 month appointment yesterday.  FINALLY - we were in the "Well Baby Room" at the doctor's office.  FINALLY - we were at the doctor's office and we weren't sick!

Oliver weighed in at 16 lb 2 oz - he's in the 18% for weight.   He's 26" long in the 15%.  But his head measures at 16.93" in the whopping 32%!  Oliver is not breaking any weight or height records...he's not tipping the scales.  But he's perfectly proportionate!  Growing perfectly well...with a slightly big noggin!

I am amazed at the difference between boys and girls already!  We brought Oliver in for his check up and he destroyed the place!  He kept grabbing the paper on the table, reaching for things on the walls, if there was something to get into, he wanted to get into it!  And it's like that everywhere we go!  He's SO curious.

Dr. D was amazed at Oliver's mobility.  He must have said it ten times!  Oliver does this little worm move to get wherever he wants.  He pushes up on his legs. He pushes up on his arms.  But he never does both at one time.  However, Dr. D said, it's time to start baby proofing, because he's ready to move.  And when he does...boy oh boy!

Dr. D also said this is the best Oliver has sounded since he had the Bronchiolitis.  The inhaler he was prescribed the last time really seems to be working.  Dr. D suggested we keep using the new inhaler until April 1.  The steroid cream is really working too.  This picture hardly (hardly, hardly) does his eczema justice.  It was SO red.  He looks so much better.  Overall it was a great doctor's appointment.

Oliver truly is a happy baby.  It took him SO long to smile and now he smiles all the time.  He smiles and he laughs.  This deep, deep belly laugh.  He snorts.  It's infectious.  You can't help but laugh when he does!  And who makes him laugh the most?

His sister - of course!  He adores her.  Everything she does, he smiles at.  Or laughs at.  And I seriously mean everything!  This morning she was reading her homework.  She was ready about bees building nests...and he was losing. his. mind.

And she equally adores him.  She wants to help all the time.  It's so nice that he's a little bigger now and I'm not quite as afraid that she is going to break him.  She likes to make him dance and move his arms (ok, ok, so Andy and I may do the same thing).  She's usually very careful.  Oliver sometimes seems bigger than Eleanor, so it's nice to just let her love on her little bro!

Oliver also does this thing where he will grab your cheeks with both hands and pull your face close to his and then open his mouth all the way - I think he's trying to eat me whole!  I also firmly believe that he his kissing me.  He screeches when he does this.  I LOVE this.

I believe that Oliver's eyes are going to stay blue.  They are SO blue.  They sparkle in the sunlight.  Oh I'm in so much trouble with those blue, twinkling eyes.  They melt me.

Oliver continues to try a new food each week and we have also introduced his mesh feeder.  He LOVES bananas and frozen peaches in his feeder.  However, he gets pretty mad that he's just eating through the feeder and not directly getting the food.  He's just about sitting up - he wobbles, but can balance for a few minutes.  Once he's sitting we get to start introducing finger foods and I know he's ready.  This kid is going to eat everything we put in front of him.  But right now I'd say avocado is his favorite.
Avocado or frozen teething toys.  He likes those too!  But no teeth yet - I have felt around several times and nothing.

Such a big boy in mom's high chair!
Oliver has gotten a little better with traveling in the car.   Traveling in the daylight is definitely the best option for us.  And loading our little friend up with toys helps too.  He doesn't love it - but he doesn't hate it.

And the final topic - sleep.  Oliver starts his nighttime routine at 7 PM.  He gets a bottle and is put in his crib.  If he's sleeping, if he's awake, he gets put in his crib.  Maybe he'll fuss a little.  Let out a few grunts, squawks, and squeaks...but then he falls asleep.  And he stays that way until anywhere between 1200 and 330.  He gets 4 ounces and goes right back to bed.  We can usually get another 3 - 4 hours out of him before he wakes up again.  Which means, if he wakes up at midnight, someone is getting up with him around 4...and my alarm goes off between 5 and 530.  That can be rough!  But some nights, only one of us has to get up only one time.  We are getting there.  Slowly, we are getting there.  Oliver has also learned how to turn his monkey "mobile" on.  He rolls himself over and knows how to hit the button to turn it on.  This usually can buy us 30 minutes of extra rest time.  OR he has a gymnastics competition in his crib and wears himself out.

One final topic - Can you guess which child has Mexican genes and which child is like 100% German.  Eleanor has a beautiful olive skin tone....Oliver?  Well....he's pretty white!  Although, both kids suffer horribly from eczema.

I'm just obsessed with him. Oliver - I adore you!  I don't love that you are growing up so fast.  Especially knowing you are my last (yes, Oliver is my last), but I love that you are growing up so wonderfully!
