My Rent the Runway Experience

2 weeks ago we attended the Aids Resources Center of Wisconsin's Make a Promise fundraiser.  The event is black tie.

This was our second year going, so I knew I would need to buy a new dress.  That is...until my friend Sara told me about "Rent the Runway".  I had never heard of it.

Rent the Runway

It's a website with thousands of dresses - summer maxi dresses all the way to formal gowns.  They don't technically have wedding dresses, but depending on your style, I suppose you might find something you could wear to your wedding.

Dresses range from $30 to $800.

Good luck choosing among the thousands of dresses.  I wanted them all!!

ooohhhh, I still kind of want them all!

You can order your dress and then a back up size.  All for the same price!
Most dresses come with several "real life reviews".  I mean - let's face it - we don't all look like 5'10", 120 lb models with legs for days.  So real life women post their height, weight, and measurements, the size of dress they ordered and pictures of them in the dress.  These reviews are what really helped me pick the sizes to order.

There is a 4 day rental and an 8 day rental.  Pick your delivery date. And wait.  Argh.  Wait.

Finally, the day came.  I was actually working from home on the Thursday my dress was supposed to arrive, so I waited and waited for the dog to freak out on the UPS man.

I never heard him bark, but when I opened the door to listen for the bus, I saw a black bag on my door step.

Lucky for me I had a few extra minutes before the bus came and I took my black bag and ran upstairs.  That little black bag uncurled into a full garment bag with my two dresses neatly hung inside.

In the upper left hand corner of the garment bag was a little pocket with a return shipping label and a lock for returning the dress.

I immediately put the dress on.  Oooohhhh, thank goodness I ordered two sizes!  I feel in love!  Eleanor fell in love.  Andy fell in love.  I bet Oliver did too!  The dress fit perfectly!

Finally the big day came!  I couldn't wait to put on my dress again.  This time with my hair and make up done and perfect new Kate Spade jewelry....NOT rented (squeeeeeeellllll!!!)  This has to be what Cinderella felt like!  I made sure to grab a headless picture, because I promised myself I was going to review the dress and be helpful to other women.

The dress was fantastic and so was the night!  I can't wait until next year's event!

The next day I had to pack my dress up and ship it back.  Wah.  But it was SO simple.  Back on the hanger.  Back in the bag.  I zipped it up - put the return address label back on the bag and locked it up.

I found the nearest UPS drop box.  And panicked!!  I had a 4 day rental.  Thursday - Friday - Saturday - Sunday.  UPS doesn't do pick up on Sunday.  NO WHERE.  No where does UPS do pick up on Sunday.

Well - not much I could do about that.  RTR (Rent the Runway) has to know that!  So I put it in the drop box and waited.

Finally on Wednesday I received my e-mail confirmation that my dress had been received and all was well.

It was a great first experience and I can't wait to do it again!  Maybe for a wedding we are going to in May.  Maybe for a trip we are going on in fall.  Maybe for family pictures.  Who knows - but believe me...there will be another Rent the Runway experience!
