An Evening in the Life...

I have two options -
I can do the things I need to be doing - pay some bills, do some dishes, clean up.
Or, I can sit on my couch and document the craziness that is a cold Wednesday in May.

I just think tonight is so ridiculous, that I'm choosing option B.

Eleanor had Girl Scouts tonight, so I left work at 4:50 to ensure I could be at school by 5 to pick her up.  I was SO happy to see her smile.  She left school early yesterday with a random fever and literally spent most of the day sleeping.  I left her this morning still pretty sleepy, so I just wasn't sure what the day would bring.  Oh the Eleanor that I had this afternoon is my favorite Eleanor.  I could just sit and talk to her for hours.

Andy picked up Oliver and we all met back at home around 5:15.  Andy started Oliver's dinner and Eleanor's.  Eleanor ran upstairs to change and back downstairs to eat dinner.  I started feeding Oliver while Andy took Karl outside.  Then we switched.  Andy finished feeding Oliver and I ran upstairs to change.

I didn't run through most of pregnancy as much as I had planned to or wanted to.  Now I have a 1/2 marathon in August and I better be serious about training.  Lucky for me I have an incredibly supportive husband.  The most supportive husband.   He knows I need to run.  So run I did.

Around 5:35 I was out the door to get a quick 3 miles in.  Andy took Eleanor to swim lessons and brought Oliver with him.

I was back home around 6 (a good run if I do say so myself...I can't wait for my first 5K - for a timed 5K...anyway, I digress).  I barely stretched and then ran out the door.  I text Andy that I was on my way to get Oliver.  Andy met me outside of the Y and I took Oliver home...I chitchatted away to him...only to have him fall asleep!  It was about 6:40 and I made the decision to just start Oliver's bedtime routine...only a few minutes early.

I sat down and fed him his bottle.   I sat and rocked my baby boy.  I kissed his sweet head.  His soft hands.  We stared into each other's eyes and I told him, silently and out loud, how much I loved him.  Then I put him in his bed and text Andy that I was going to jump in the shower (FINALLY) before they got home.

Oliver wasn't quite asleep yet and really whining, so after my shower I went and picked him up for  a bit and got him to sleep.  (so much for tough love).

Eleanor and Andy got home about this time and Andy turned around to leave again.  He had a volleyball game at 8 PM and needed to get downtown. Eleanor tried on a few pair of shorts that I found in her closet (surprise, surprise, they were too small) and then she got ready for bed. After dawdling as much as she could, it was about 7:40 and we needed to start reading books.  Currently we are reading On the Banks of Plum Creek.  Eleanor wanted to read a few pages to me and how can I deny that?  And then I got talked into another chapter because...well...I don't remember this book at all and wanted to see what happened next!  I hate when she reads chapters after I leave for the night, because then I miss out on what is happening in the book.  But man oh man!  Does it make my heart happy that my kindergartner is reading the Little House on the Prairie series!!  Please, Eleanor...never lose your love of reading!

Oliver made a squawk during books - PLEASE Oliver, PLEASE sleep tonight!!!

It was now a little before 8 and I finally made my way downstairs.  I had to put away a few dishes and then I made my dinner!

That is when I decided against paying bills and cleaning the kitchen and sat down on the couch.  I ate my dinner of scrambled eggs, tortilla, avocado and salsa and started blogging.  I watched my guilty pleasure show "Reign" that I had DVR'd from last week.  The season finale!  Guess I'll have to find some other stupid show to watch when Andy is at volleyball...I think I'm going to try that Astronaut Wife show....I'm so lame.

Andy just text me that his games are over.  And so is my night.  I'm going to grab some bottles for Oliver and head upstairs.

Tomorrow night isn't nearly as bad...and if it wasn't so blasted cold in the middle of May, I could have taken Oliver on my run with me and cut down on a lot of the running around.  Come on warm weather!!

And there it is - documented for all time.  This crazy, sweet life of mine.  So happy the kiddos were amazing tonight and so happy for a supportive husband.  Life.  It's crazy sweet!
