Happy 7th Birthday, Eleanor!
I finally have a moment to myself and can finish and post Eleanor's Birthday Blog.
Here I am...Once again saying, I can't believe it's my baby's birthday.
2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 (oh! bad mom didn't blog for E's 5th birthday!), 2014
And now 2015. My baby is turning 7. I can't believe she's turning 7 and I can't believe that I'm old enough to have a 7 year old!;-)
This last year has been one of the more interesting years for me to parent Eleanor. She is almost challenging me - forcing me - to love her completely differently than I ever have before.
She's not a baby anymore and I can't love her like one or parent her like one. And yet, there are times she just yearns to be a little kid again. For the most part, I can completely handle this but the baby talk really drives me crazy! Thank goodness I volunteered with Eleanor's girl scout troop the other day and learned it's pretty common for first graders.
Technically - Eleanor hasn't changed "much", which means I'm pretty sure we know exactly what Eleanor is going to be like.
She continues to be highly emotional, highly sensitive, highly imaginative, highly blunt, highly intuitive, highly analytical.
Getting to be Eleanor's mom has been one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me. I thank God every day that he picked me. That he picked her. To go on this journey with me.
She challenges me. She frustrates me. But every night I go to bed asking God for guidance. For the strength and patience to parent her the way she needs. The way she deserves. I can only hope that I'm doing this right. I can only hope she grows up to know she's as wonderful as I think she is. I can only hope that in the end she is happy, strong, grateful, thankful, caring, compassionate: All the things she is now, but that need to grow and mature with her. That when she says "I'm Sorry", it's for something that matters and that she doesn't say it too much, but when she says it, she means it.
I just try to parent her with my heart. To do all things with my heart - just the way she does.
Eleanor, I am so proud of you. I love you more than anything - not just to the moon and back. More than that. I see your future - and it's bright. But I can't wait to see it and to live it with you! Happy 7th Birthday, Sweetheart!
