A Mother's Love
Another year - another Mother's Day.
Another time to reflect on a Mother's Love.
And for the last 6 years, every day for the last 6 years, I've been trying to figure it out - thinking I've figured it out.
I mean, I have and know my Mother's love.
For the last 33 years, I've known it. I've learned it.
She was a mother.
She grew to be a friend.
And now she's a Grandmother.
And I'm so, so lucky.
And then I was pregnant. And nothing was more important than the child I carried.
And then she was born.
And my life will never, ever be the same.
If I've said it once, I've said it a million times.
If my mother loves me 1/3 of what I love this kid...I'm one lucky lady.
Eleanor exhausts me. When she's tired - she doesn't talk...she shrieks. It's like nails on a chalkboard.
When she's tired, she can't sit still and she'll climb all over you trying to get comfortable.
But she has the largest heart in the world. If she's your friend, she's your best friend.
She's imaginative. She's smart. She's brave. She's caring. And I made her. And nothing makes me happier than watching her grow.
And then....I was pregnant. And just when I didn't think my heart could love any more. Just when I didn't think it was possible. I felt this little guy inside me move. He's really there. And now. Now I protect them both. My two little reasons for living. My Eleanor and my baby boy. My momma's little boy. The boy I will get to watch become a man. And my heart is ready to burst.
And all the other Mothers that have allowed me to be a part of their life!
My sister. The woman who, at 5 years older than me, always kind of "mothered" me. She protected me. She taught me things. And I look at her 2 amazing little kiddos growing boys and I think, I hope my children can grow to be as respectful and kind as those two. I try each and every day to learn from her.
My Aunts. The mom's of my friends. My friends. The girls that I grew up with. I drank myself silly with in college. That I pulled dumb, stupid stunts with. The girls that have become moms. That have become everything for their little ones.
And the 3 lovely women that didn't choose me. But I chose their son. Not once, but 3 times I have been blessed with amazing Mother-in-Laws. Each of these three women have taught me something else. A little piece of them, becoming the mother I am today. The wife I am today. And the person that I want to become.
So to all the moms out there. Past. Present. Future.
Living. Deceased. And the women, who want, more than anything, to reciprocate the love that has been given to them onto their own little ones. Know your time will come.
A mother's job is never done.
A mother's job is never easy.
But it is, by far, the greatest job I've ever had!
Happy Mother's Day!
