Baby Shower #1
Tomorrow I get to celebrate the pending arrival of Baby B! I feel so incredibly lucky and spoiled to be given another shower!
But, before I have the opportunity to brag about that shower, I thought I better post (brag) about the REAL shower #1.
My surprise shower hosted by my co-workers! And I was indeed surprised!
So...last Tuesday I had my regular 1:1 meeting with my boss. A week or so prior, he had asked to move our meeting back and make it a lunch meeting.
About 15 minutes before our meeting was to start, our Recruiter walked into my office and said she needed to update me on a few things.
When my boss arrived 15 or so minutes later, Jean (the Recruiter) tried shoo'ing him away. She told him that we were going to be putting leftovers in the conference room (from lunch the previous day) and that he should go check on it! I was just appalled!! Yes, we are a small organization...but we still have an org. chart! And here was MY direct report...telling MY boss...to go check on left overs.
I quickly told Jean we could finish our meeting later.
Joe - my boss - came in and shut the door. I had A LOT I wanted to catch up with him on, so I got right down to it...asking for a nice, large sum of money for LinkedIn Recruiter. A few minutes into my "schpeel" there was a knock on the door. ARGH! Doesn't anyone around here respect a scheduled meeting?! It was our Controller, asking if Joe and I could come to the conference room for a minute to discuss something. We are going through a big move at work and I looked at Joe and said, "If this has anything to do with the move, I'm going to be really annoyed..." Joe was relatively quiet.
We walked around the corner and I saw some baseballs hanging on the wall. For a split second I thought...Is this for me? But then I quickly pushed the idea out of my head. Why would they be throwing me a shower? I've only been there for a few months...and I'm HR! But as I turned the corner INTO the conference room everyone shouted SURPRISE!!!
Oh my gosh! SO surprised! SO humbled! I couldn't believe it! They had the most amazing pot luck spread...and all the detail!! So much baseball detail. I just felt speechless. So lucky. So blessed! So thankful!
My co-worker made this amazing little baseball and onesie chocolates. Aren't they ADORABLE?
They even got my mother-in-law involved and asked her to bake a cake for me! Leave it to Shirley to design this AMAZING peanut-butter cheesecake with chocolate cake layers baseball shaped cake!! A baker mother-in-law is what every pregnant girl needs!!

Chocolate making co-worker also made those baseball cookies! How sweet are those? I mean seriously - these guys went all out with the baseball theme!
And perhaps my favorite touch of all was the Cracker Jack "Thank You" gifts. Those ladies are some good party planners - and FANTASTIC secret keepers.
And as if the shower wasn't enough - Baby B was showered with fantastic gifts! Especially a much needed wardrobe (I mean...I can't really expect him to wear pink and bows ALL the time...right?)
A great time - A great surprise.
Another indication of how loved Baby B is already.
And how lucky I am - for so many reasons! Looking forward to round 2 tomorrow!
