Just another Day in the Life
Oh I'm just filled with regret.
I just spent time doing my Summer edition of Day in the Life. Another weekday.
And I TOTALLY should have done the post today-I basically did without realizing it!
So here we go - It's not as detailed - so bear with me. I'm proud of how the day turned out -- Given how the night went.
Friday night I went to bed around 9:30, concerned about how my night could go. Of course, not until after Eleanor and I made and consumed our own little s'mores dip.
Around 10:30 I heard Oliver wake up. I flew out of bed, gave him his nuk and he fell back to sleep right away. But his 1:30 wake up call was not as easy. We battled it out until 3:30 AM when I finally caved and made him a bottle. Twice. He ate 2 oz, screamed, so I made 2 more! Oh God am I screwed now! What is up with this kid??
Anyway, he woke up for good around 6:30 and actually, Eleanor was just getting out of bed too.
We had a very lazy morning until my inlaws arrived a little after 8. I feel SO blessed this morning. Andy's dad and step-mom came over so I could do my long run today. I was supposed to do 9, but I haven't had a long run in two weeks and I was up for two hours last night. Running is SO mental and I couldn't handle having a bad run today. I'm happy with my decision because my 7 went well and I feel like I should be able to do 9 next Saturday. And I'm still well ahead of my training schedule.
When I got home Oliver was sleeping - Grandpa did his job of holding him out until 9:30. O slept until a little before 10:30 and I was happy with that. If I can get him to do two 1 hour naps on the weekends, I'll be happy.
Our pre-lunch morning was again pretty lazy. We all played a little, inside and outside. Finally, I got ready to make us lunch. You see, I really was just trying to get us to 1:30 so I could put Oliver down for his next nap and I could get Eleanor down for a nap...and then...then I got to nap!
So eventually we made it to that time, Oliver fought it, but eventually closed his eyes and fell asleep. Eleanor wasn't as excited to nap as she normally is. So...I told her she had to stay in her room and read...but I needed to lay down. Oliver woke up a little after 2:00...about a 40 min nap. And I was in bed most of that time. I was so proud of Eleanor and happy.
So we gave Oliver his afternoon bottle and then Eleanor got to pick what we did. There is a path at a park by our house that she really wanted to walk down the other day when we were there. I wouldn't let us because we didn't have tick spray (neurotic much?)
The path was actually pretty cool and we had a lot of fun exploring. Eleanor could have spent all afternoon back there, but while my tick spray does awesome keeping the ticks away, it did squat for keeping the mosquitos away and I was getting eaten alive. So I knew the kids were too.
So once the path deposited us back at the park, we just staid there...we spent lots of time swinging. Oliver could spend all day in a swing and Eleanor is mastering "pumping" this summer and wants to practice, practice, practice.
Eleanor declared hunger, so we left the park, stopped by to feed our friend's cat (they are out of town) and went home for a snack. It was a hot and muggy day, so Popsicles seemed like the right choice. For Oliver too. I mean - why not, right? He LOVED it!
Eleanor kept a good play by play, announcing how much faster Oliver was eating his popsicle. Well...then they got all sticky...so they had to play in water (I feel like I'm reading "If you give a Mouse a Cookie" book). So Eleanor wanted to go in the sprinkler and Oliver resorted to his favorite tray full of water.
So after both kids consumed more food then I knew they were capable of, we decided to hit up one more park for the day. Some more swinging, monkey bars and climbing and then we headed home.
Both kids were just gross from an active, busy day in Wisconsin humidity, so I declared dual bath night for both. Of course pictures were taken...I mean, it was dual both time! But...not for this blog!
Eleanor staid in the tub and played while I got Oliver ready for bed.
By 6:50, I had Oliver's bottle ready and Eleanor was downstairs watching TV. I put O to bed easy, peasy and came down to watch TV with E. Aaaaahhhhhh, it felt so good to just cuddle with Eleanor and not have to be running around with O. We enjoyed our quiet time and then head upstairs at 7:40 for a chapter of "On the Shores of Silver Lake". Eleanor asked to keep her light on for a bit after we finished, but I guarantee you...she didn't stay up late.
Me? Well, I came downstairs, poured myself a beer (aaaaahhhhhh) and sat on the couch. Shhhhh, not talking to anyone. Not doing anything. I typed this up and now I'm going to head up.
For the love that is all good and well...PLEASE OLIVER, sleep tonight. You don't have to sleep through the night, but do not wake up for a 2 hour battle.
So that was my day. All day alone with both kids is a lot. But I think our day went really well. I had a great day with these two. It was exhausting, but they really were both so good.

| She is priceless. I mean, don't you wear googles in the sprinkler? |
| Mom...buy me a pool! |
It was getting close to dinner time and I told Eleanor earlier in the day we could go out to dinner. She chose Qdoba...which is her go to choice these days...which is just so odd. But it makes me overjoyed, so off to Qdoba we went. I was also overjoyed that Oliver thoroughly was loving his black beans. He just wouldn't stop eating them!
