Kitchen Remodel Day 1 - Demo Day!

HOW I LEFT IT:

VS. What it looks like when I got home!

I can't believe the progress that can be made in one day.
I can't believe how cold my 'kitchen' feels.
I can't believe how LOUD my 'kitchen' is - well, how much it echos.

I found it funny to come home and just see my kitchen sink in the dumpster in it's full form.
It was fun to see the old countertops under the layer of granite.
And it was glorious to see those ugly cabinets exactly where they belong!

If you know, you know that each New Year's Eve I like to make a list of things to do during the year that correspond with the year it is - 20 in 20, 21 in 21, etc.  One of the things on this year's list was 'Abyss Counter'.  That is what we called the counter next to the fridge.  It was an abyss.  It just collected 'stuff' until that stuff found a new home.  Which it seldom did.
I guess we can say I successfully solved that problem in 2026!  I just removed the entire counter!!

Meanwhile, things are looking mighty cozy in our garage!

Another view of the missing cabinets.  And counters. And stove.
Sadly.  No picture of what they found under the stove, but Andy said it was a lot of M&Ms.  Like how does that even happen?!
Can't wait for that hideous ceiling fan to go!!

Goodbye abyss counter!

One of the only things I will miss about the first floor are these lovely built ins.  My favorite memory is when we moved into the house in 2014 (and I was 100 months pregnant), by very dear, very spicy grandma-in-law commented on my beautiful built in cabinets and how great of a place it will be for my china.  I told her, Grandma, I don't have china.  She scoffed at me.  "What kind of self-respecting woman gets married - TWICE - and doesn't have china."  Love you, Alice!

Check out that awesome wallpaper.  Wonder when that is from?  OG to the house?  1988?  I imagine there used to be some fancy geese somewhere in that kitchen too (you know exactly the ones I 'm talking about because they are coming back 'in-style'.)

Only real surprise of the day was that I didn't know they were going to move ceiling tiles in my craft room.  So there is a bit of dust and debris in there now.  But I got a few things covered and moved a few photo boxes in anticipation of more.  Sorry Eleanor. You photobombed my photo!

HOLY SMOKES!  That was day 1.  I'm jealous that Andy is home all day and gets to bop down whenever he wants to see progress, and yet - it was really fun to just walk in blind last night after work.  Wonder what Day 2 will bring!!
