Kitchen Remodel - Demo Day 2
First thing I did when I got home was look in the dumpster. So this is a really bad photo, but the dumpster was significantly more full then it was when I left. And then I noticed the carpet (I didn't think floors were happening until Friday) and...is that my wall in there? What is that? Is that a vent?
I like walking in the front door these days. I helps ease me into the shock of the house.
First things first...My horrible slatted doors are gone! And so is the millwork (I learned that's all the trim around a door).
So - I knew the wall was coming down today because Andy sent me this picture. Look how bright that is! My kitchen is going to be SO bright!
But WOAH. This project just got WAY bigger than I thought! I didn't realize we were getting a new ceiling! I mean, I guess taking down all the soffits, and the lights, and all the stuff, I should have realized. But like - WHAT?! I didn't even get a great picture of the horrible paint job we did when we replaced the FLORESCENT LIGHT that used to be in our kitchen.
And remember my 26 for 26? Well, I checked ANOTHER one off the list today.

Fix the hole in my ceiling.
Turns out - in order to fix things on my 26 for 26, I just get rid of them! (One of the things on my list is protecting my nervous system...think I could just get rid of that? Or is that another blog for another time?)
I'm kinda diggin' the open door pantry...More slatted doors - GONE.
Ceiling fan...jjuuuuuuussst about gone. I just love the aesthetic ceiling piece around the fan. I HATE that fan. Check out those awesome glass 'lampshades'.
How does some place SO BIG, look SO small?
Where does the dust in the wall come from?
Just in time for spooky season....allllllll the wires hanging from our ceiling.
Just holes in our floor. Sometimes I know where they go. Sometimes I don't!
The spindle base is gone!! When we took out the deck years ago, Andy rented a reciprocating saw, and we had fun taking down other things - including the dated, random, spindles in our living room. Welllllll, then we didn't know what to do with the base, so we just left it. (Listen, I'm not saying we didn't cause some of the issues in our first floor! ha!)
I went into the basement to start heating some dinner in our super fancy dorm sized microwave and Eleanor came downstairs, asking me to come upstairs, everything was OK, but she needed me to see something.
MOM! I can see the kitchen from my bedroom. Sucks to have the day off tomorrow kiddo. 😬
A little out of order, but this is from this morning as I was getting ready for work...just sitting in the middle of all the mess. Even after one day, I feel like we've found a place for a few things. As I type this, Andy and I are both sitting on the couch - this morning, that couldn't have happened.
Don't get me wrong, as I sit here, I also have eyes on the dish rack from our sink, still with our 2 plates, 2 forks, 2 cups, from Sunday....
Day 2 - Debbie is not overly impressed. She did meet the contractors today. Andy said they did great with her. They let her sniff them and then bark like crazy. I bet, by the end of this - they'll be great friends!
